English Beat Swing Back Into Ska

Posted by Molli Fire on Friday, 8June07

This news piece is dedicated to CrashPryor, one of my fave MOGgers. I remember you mentioned wishing you had been working in BeeB studios when the English Beat recorded there. This one’s for you Crash

The English Beat Have Returned In Full Swing! They are touring, playing shows with INXS and UB40, doing interviews and they are working on a new album to be released later this year!

Today, NPR’s World Cafe did an interview with the band, that is interspersed with audio from a live performance the recently reunited band did in the UK. It’s a beautiful show and you can listen to it right now on NPR’s World Cafe page – Dave Wakeling: Ska and The English Beat.

I hope the new English Beat album looks good next to the new Bad Brains album!! Perhaps a mashup will ensue?

Thanks for posting this info. Do you know who’s in the line-up for this series of shows? Are all of the original 6 members playing?

    Thanks.

I read that one original member was not going to be touring, but I wasn’t able to track down who. If you find out, please let me know.
    Thanks!

Dave Wakeling lead vocals/guitar, Rhythmm -drums, Fernando- Sax, Paul keyboards, Rich on guitar are so great to see and hear. I love listening to these guys and Dave is the Original English Beat man. I love him and the group. Keep watching for them in your town. I know I do and see everytime they are in Solana Beach, Malibu or LA.

Thanks Yvonne! Wow, so it looks like this lineup is mostly from Dave Wakeling’s ska band lineup and does not include the original English Beat members like Roger, Everett, Sax, Andy or David? Yowsa. The English Beat sound great regardless of who is playing, and the other OG members are active in other bands. Thanks so much for the info Yvonne, I wasn’t able to discern this from anything I had read inline. You know your Beat!

  5. …thanks Molli Fire…keep on skankin’…
