Next it put something in my temp file that had something to do with Windows DRM licensing. Does anybody know what this is about? I am completely not cool with anything that has DRM, so I almost didn’t report this. But I wanted to use this post as an opportunity to get feedback from you. What happens when you try to watch this? Do you know what Windows DRM is on your computer? Does anyone know how to disable it? Any info you have would be much appreciated. Bjork! Bjork! Bjork! Dang nothing happened. I thought maybe I could conjure up the faerie queen. Well, she’s probably to busy right now to be conjured. She’s still touring and doing all kinds of press.
For starters, you can find a fabulous interview with Bjork in the amazing online magazine Dummy Mag. It’s a virtual magazine that you actually turn the pages of. I love these tree-free magazines! Her interview is on page 66, but you might not want to skip ahead. There are articles/interviews with Bonde do Role, Justice, Maccabees, Dizzee Rascal, Skull Disco and more with lots of big glossy looking photos. Surprisingly it loads super fast. I need to learn that trick. Must be a flash thing.
Over on the opposite side of the web (literally, from zmag.co.uk to apple.com) Alan Pollard profiled the technical arrangement of Volta for Apple Pro. Alan Pollard has an insider’s perspective as Bjork’s technical director for a full 10 years. He must be pretty good at his job. He’s in charge of the technical aspects of her music, and is especially important to her on tour. In this feature, he talks about how he packs the entire faerie kingdom into a laptop (lemme guess, a MAC laptop) and the details of how to make all her mechanization work seamlessly with her human performance. It’s a stellar read for studio and gear buffs.
M.I.A. Opens For Bjork In France
And, If you are able to catch her 2 shows in Nimes France in August, you will also get to see M.I.A. when she opens for Bjork at these 2 shows!

PassAlong, a digital media company based in Tennessee, has announced a deal with EMI to sell the music company’s entire digital catalog DRM-free.
The bonus of this agreement with PassAlong, is that its stores will offer the tunes as 320kbps mp3 format – a higher bitrate than the 128 and 192kbps bitrate that is currently offered by many online stores, including iChoons. This means that downloading a 320kbps mp3 that is free of the DRM restrictions will sound nearly as good as a cd and be even more versatile. You can play DRM-free tracks in any portable player, you can move it from one machine to another, regardless of platform, you can burn a cd of it and play it anywhere. Heck, at 320kbps you can even dj that shizzle to a slammin dancefloor and it will probably go over great! Of course, music of any format only sounds as good as the speakers its played on, so many may never hear the difference between a high quality mp3 and a cd or vinyl copy. The bigger/better the soundsystem, the more of a difference you will hear…
iChoons has plans to offer the premium quality downloads for 30 cents more, and Amazon will likely also offer the premium quality tracks when it launches its digital music store this summer. PassAlong passed the buck on how much it will charge for the higher quality tracks, stating that price is decided by the individual retailers.

Brrrup! Another sizzling Wiley video! Feel the beat drop in “Mistakes.” This tune is heartfelt and dare I say with conscious lyrics. Reminds me just a likkle bit of Dizzee’s “Brand New Day” from Boy In Da Corner, when he was still under Eski-boy’s wing.
“Mistakes” video in high quality mov format
or watch it from youTube:
Wiley also released Tshirts today with his name sprayed in white across the chest. They would sure look hot on some fellas. Get one from the Ninja Tune Shop. And, yes, Wiley is even playing the Dour Festival in Belgium on July 13th. I still need a ticket to that if anyone has an extra! (I also need a plane ticket if anybody has a wad of bills they want to donate! Just email me.)
Also on the Big Dada horizon, they have a 10th Anniversary album coming out called Big Dada Best Bits. It’s scheduled for release in September and I will have more details on that over the summer. In the meantime, check out Big Dada’s download page. There are even some FREE mp3s on there. For you.
Wicked likkle Wiley player that you can embed on your blog/myspace/MOG/ what have you. Plays Wiley videos and songs!

Canadian post-rock fans – I bring you reasons to rejoice! Broken Social Scensters/Do Make Say Thinkers/KC Accidentalists have been working on a new album. Kevin Drew (of BSS) wrote the songs and recorded them at his mate Ohad Benchetrit‘s studio. The music is played by Kevin, Ohad, and Charles Spearin, which leads one to wonder – Is this a BSS album, a KC Accidental album, or a DMST album? None of the above. It’s Kevin Drew’s solo album, despite calling it Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew, “Spirit If…”
A press release put out by Arts&Crafts (the record label for BSS, Feist, among others) states that the new album is all from Kevin’s musings and favorite activities. Specifically, the album is about “fucking, fighting, fearing and hope.” Broken Social Scene’s other core founding member, Brendan Canning is working on Broken Social Scene Presents… Volume 2 while a BSS Presents tour is in the works for this fall. Watch the Arts&Crafts website for updates, and of course HearingTest news. If all this musical crossbreeding has you completely confused, check the wiki pages in the links to sort it all out. Canadians are just more Social than most, eh?

MORE FIRE!!! Boh! This mix is hot! MORE FIRE, MORE BASS is by one of my favOrite producers, Matt Shadetek. I actually heard part of this mix when it originally aired on Mary Anne Hobbs’ show on BBC Radio 1 on March 16th. I was packing my bags to go snowboarding while the sounds coming out of my speakers were inspiring feelings of sailing down slopes of deep powder. Coz that’s what this mix is like, it’s deep and sludgey, with clean sweeps that sail over the heavy basslines. This mix clocks in at a mere 30 minutes of sonic rapture but contains a lot of original music by Shadetek and NYC neighbors 77Klash and Jah Dan. Don’t worry, I’m not teasing you with fond memories. Matt launched the mp3 on his blog today, where you can download it for yourself. I can even vouch for it being a pretty quick download, despite how clean it sounds. These boys know their bitrate technology and it was originally intended for radio play and streaming anyhow.
01. Can’t Breathe – Tanya Stephens (Matt Shadetek Remix) [Unreleased)
02. Untitled – Matt Shadetek (Unreleased)
03. Bumbaclat Badman – Chronik feat. Skepta, Wiley & Esco (Slew Dem Records)

05. Walk It Out Remix – DJ Unk feat. Andre 3000 & Jim Jones (Koch Records)
06. Do It – Jon E Cash (Black Ops)
07. Go Home – Timeblind (Unreleased)
08. Gigantic Wings – Drop The Lime (Unreleased)
09. Vans – The Pack (Jive)
10. Reign Riddim – Matt Shadetek (Sound-Ink)
11. Reign – Team Shadetek feat. Skepta (Sound-Ink)
12. Gave You All My Dub – Matt Shadetek feat. Jahdan (Unreleased)
13. Separating – Team Shadetek feat. Jammer (Sound-Ink)
14. Cassava Riddim – Matt Shadetek (Unreleased)
15. She Told Me – Noble Society feat. 77Klash
16. Untitled – Timeblind (Unreleased)
17. Japan – Plastician (Terrorhythm)
18. Try Harder – Drop The Lime (Broklyn Beats)
19. Daylight – Team Shadetek (Sound-Ink)
Yep, all that in a seamless 30 minute mix (no breaks in between trax). Head over to Glaciers of Shade, the home of Team Shadetek.
If you like what you hear, please buy the latest release from Shadetek/77Klash/JahDan – the excellent Brooklyn Anthem featuring Courtney Melody from his classic “Bad Boy” hit. Released by Sound Ink and available on BLEEP. Team Shadetek also have a release on WARP Records called Burnerism among others.

Suzanne Vega is back with a new album out on June 5th. Beauty & Crime is her 7th album but, marks Vega’s debut on Blue Note Records.
1.Zephyr & I
3.New York Is A Woman
5.Frank & Ava
6.Edith Wharton’s Figurines
9.As You Are Now
The album is a narrative about her personal experiences in Spanish Harlem, Manhattan, and all around the city of New York where she grew up and still resides. The album sounds like a storybook map of NYC as read by Vega herself. The album has hard luck, love, even graffiti, as well as an all-star cast of musicians and producers:
Will Malone (Dido, Seal, Corrine Bailey Rae) – orchestral arranger
KT Tunstall – background vocals and vocal arranger
Gerry Leonard (David Bowie) and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) on guitars
Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith) – bassist
Plus og members of Suzanne’s band, Mike Visceglia on bass guitar and Doug Yowell on drums.
Well right now you can grab a video podcast of Vega describing her experiences and thoughts about making this album and shedding even more light on the narrative that Beauty & Crime offers about growing up in NYC.
Alas, this is another iTunes only podcast, so if you use this format, go get it. And, as usual, if that link does not work, please let me know…
Enjoy Wanbli! I am also looking forward to this album very much. It has been too long since we heard Ms. Vega’s sultry voice.
